Virtual Facilitation

What is Virtual Facilitation?

In a virtual classroom, every minute counts. You need to command attention, engage your learners, and keep momentum high -- especially in the face of potential distractions. A virtual facilitator guides participants through a discussion or decision making process, fostering participation along the way.

In the virtual world, the facilitator also needs to prepare and manage the online space to allow for brainstorming, discussion and decision making without technical hiccups. To achieve the desired results requires a careful balance of direction and space, and the right technology to support the session.

Virtual Facilitation

Depending if you desire to be certified as a Great Place to Work®, want to develop a learning intervention or purchase content assets to use for training your staff or if you desire to select and implement a new Learning Management System, the Gap Analysis will have a different process and approach.

At times we will use Action Mapping to develop a series of actionable solutions. We will facilitate your internal discussions and document your needs. We will add our expert advice in the process of prioritizing the activities.

The process will be adapted to your needs to suit your team and unearth the requirements for the project. We will together develop and prioritize your action plan and define the next steps that will lead your organization towards your goals.

Online Business Coaching

More Than Just Uploading PowerPoints!

There is a common misunderstanding that to facilitate a virtual meeting or training you just need to upload some PowerPoint slides and you’re done! Unfortunately there’s a little more to virtual engagement than that.

Whether you’re transitioning a strategic planning meeting to Zoom or looking to run an onboarding class in your own platform, we can partner with you to help make the most of your virtual opportunities.

Virtual meetings are the future - our increasingly global, remote workforce is evidence of this.

Understanding your action items can be overwhelming. However, once they are structured into an actionable plan it will be less daunting so we can address the next steps.

This may include the development of training programs, selection of group programs or off-the-shelf content assets or other change management procedures.

Our team of experts will be here to help you define the best next steps so you can elevate your leaders and team members to even better performance or showcase your organization’s status as a Great Place to Work®.

Preparation is Key

In all honesty, not every leader feels comfortable running an effective virtual meeting.

Careful planning of the agenda and deciding which tools to use to enable effective communication is even more important in the virtual space. For example, industry experts recommend reconnecting with the audience every THREE TO FIVE minutes, whether through a discussion, a poll, a chat question, or a new form of media.

Virtual Facilitation Preparation

Attention in virtual settings is much harder to maintain, so we recommend considering a series of shorter meetings with time to process in between. This also allows for planning activities that support the process between the online workshops, such as surveys, offline work on action items, and inclusion of the wider team.

Benefits of Working With an External Facilitator

Our clients have particularly appreciated having an external facilitator without hierarchical ties to their business. This alone can help foster more open and honest communication, without fear of “saying the wrong thing”. Bringing independent perspectives and observations to the discussion can even open conflict conversations to come to a common decision.

In a meeting setting, new and external processes help get everyone working on common ground, and we can be an equalizer for otherwise hierarchical teams. This is the basis for constructive conversations and effective decision making.

SFU Beedie School of Business

"Petra is amazing! She was a tremendous asset to our School in creating our strategic plan over the past four months. She is an experienced facilitator and is skillful at both listening for and to what our needs were and then co-creating a process that drove results. This was even more impressive as all of this was done online, remotely. We found the process, techniques and online tools she employed highly effective. I personally appreciated her collaborative and well-reasoned approach to our pre-meetings and sessions. Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with Petra and recommend her highly."
